A Clash of Kings was not as cohesive as Game of Thrones. With the exception of Daenyerys the story tied together despite the different character perspective. I'll admit I skimmed Catelyn Starke. She was not at all compelling. I don't like her. Her treatment of Jon Snow and Arya bugs me.
Parts of this book really excelled such as Jon Snow, Arya, Bran and Tyrion then other parts dragged.
I'm not rooting for Stannis or Renly to be king. Cersei and Joffrey may be creepy as hell but they aren't boring. The flashes we got of Renly were that he is a clothes horse. I never cared for court intrigue and fashion. I like the scheming Varys and Tyrion. Renly, please go away or give me more of what makes him tick as a person.
Stannis was realised as a person from other characters. All I know of Renly was Eddard's impression of him.
I adore Arya. If the entire series was parred down to one book about her it would still be interesting.
I could not get past Theon's age when he was sexing up women.
I imagined Daniel Radcliffe's episode of the show Extras
